PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Matt Caffrey
- No news to report about the 501(c)(3). A letter has been sent to us from the IRS requesting more information and an extension has been filed.
- A facebook page has been setup for the DBCA. This is another good communication tool. Please become a fan of our page and help spread the word about the DBCA.
- We are in the process of completing the paperwork for Samantha, who will be working with the DBCA for her senior project. She will be introduced to our group shortly. Her main objective will be to see what the DBCA does and to help facilitate getting more volunteers for our events.
- Meeting with John Davis regarding the holiday decorations. The borough wants to be involved and take an active role to help rectify the problem with the non-working lights.
- Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out to help take down the holiday decorations. This was done in a record 2 hrs. A special thank you goes out to Cathy Hoot who did an excellent job coordinating this volunteer event.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Matt Caffrey presented the report. Our ending balance for January 2010 was $12,830.10.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Arts Festival – no update
Holiday Decorations – Matt Caffrey
- The holiday decorations were taken down and everything went well. 60-65% of the lights were non-working.
- Next year, the wreaths and signs at Starbucks will need to come down in a timely fashion. A permit needs to be filed with the borough with information on when the wreaths/signs are going up and coming down. This is a standard borough operating procedure. You will also need approval from Rick Lyons the owner of the Starbucks building. Contact Rick’s secretary Terry to request approval.
Hanging Baskets - no update
Shop Local – Ellen Mager
- Shop Local is going ahead with Read Across America, which is in its 4th year. Coin jars will be placed in the stores throughout town to collect for charity from February 29 – March 8, 2010. This is a national program and each year the program is in memory of people who have done so much for the community. This year we would like to add Don Stevens to the list of names.
Memorial Parade Committee – No update
Membership - Joan Doyle
- The membership committee has met to finalize the letters that will be going out.
- Many people think their memberships are paid up, but after reviewing records many memberships have not been paid since 2008. Everyone owes membership dues for 2010, unless you renewed your membership in September or after in 2009. Please don’t wait for a letter and rejoin today.
- Extensive push for the residential membership. This membership has increased by $5 bringing the cost to $30, which will include a shop local membership card.
- There are 3,700 labels for the residential mailing and are working on separating letters to business’s and taking out duplicates.
- This year we will save money by not printing our letter on stationary. The letter will be copied on buff paper.
- The mailing cost in the past has always been picked up by a business. If anyone is interested in helping with this, please contact Joan Doyle or Margie Adamsky at the office 215-340-9988.
- The business letters will be walked around and given out to all of the down town business along with a parking letter to encourage employee parking out of town.
- A Paypal account has been setup to make it easier to join or renew your membership on line.
- We need everyone to talk up membership to friends and businesses to help keep Doylestown unique and beautiful.
- A targeted mailing will go out to every attorney in town, every attorney who works in town should be supporting DBCA.
- If anyone has any expertise in Access we are looking for some help with our membership database. If you can help out, please contact Margie at the office.
- In March, business members who have not paid will be taken down from the website.
