PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Matt Caffrey
Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to hang the flower baskets. The flower baskets by Geerlings look fabulous and from start to finish it took 2 hours.
A refund check has been received from GKI Lighting for $8,000 to cover the non-working holiday decorations. Rick Kempes fought the battle to get a nice amount back. In process is a backup plan for the new holiday decorations and I have spoken with Mike from Mountain Lake and Patio.
Cathy Hoot is working on testing the lights on the remaining holiday decorations for possible use just along the Broad Street corridor.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Bill James presented the report. Our ending balance for May, 2010 was $16,113.98.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Memorial Day Parade – Matt Caffrey
- A letter was sent that our application to march in the parade had been rejected. Our banner was considered advertising. Matt attended a meeting and straightened this out.
- Joan Doyle would like to write an official letter to the Memorial Day committee to voice our displeasure in regards to the rejection letter.
- Due to lack of volunteers, the DBCA did not march in the parade. This was a missed opportunity and we will need to start planning earlier next year.
Holiday – Matt Caffrey
- Looking to see how many snowflakes are working and to clean out the trailer.
Arts Festival – Matt Caffrey
- Everything is running well.
Shop Local – Ellen Mager
- People want to know what we are doing with the shop local program. We are waiting to get an accurate list of renewed members.
- Let Ellen know if you are interested in group advertising.
Membership - Joan Doyle
- Memberships are still coming in at a greater rate than 2009 but we are still slow. We still need people to talk up DBCA and rejoin.
- Start to call up expired memberships. Working on a letters going out.
- The economy is having an impact on membership.
5K – Margie Adamsky
- The 5K event was a fun day and many thanks to all of the volunteers that came out to help.
- Sports bag and towels were given out to all 5K runners.
DBCA Liaison – Joan Doyle
- Borough council voted at the last meeting on how to handle the cost for police overtime for community events. Everyone came to a meeting to plead their case, Univest bike race, First Friday, etc. Jay Deppeler represented the DBCA wonderfully. Our 5K race is the only race that is funded by the Borough.
Flower Baskets – Matt Caffrey
- Discussion about placing a flag on all of the hanging flower baskets that would have a tag line that says in conjunction with Geerlings and the DBCA to let people know who is responsible for the flower baskets.
New Business – Matt Caffrey
- Town Meeting - There has been discussion about possibly holding a town meeting with a panel of speakers. We will keep everyone posted. This information would be put on the website with topics of suggestions. We would like to hear from some of the merchants on what they need and to make them feel more involved. This meeting would be open to the entire town. Topics could include the economy, what we are as a town, parking, and shop local, etc.
- Sidewalk Sundays – was discussed. Sunday is a dead day in Doylestown and this would be good for business. It was asked if this could be under the DBCA. Permission would be needed from the Borough. Insurance and ordinance would need to be checked.
- Will look into putting together a cocktail party for membership
- There will be a membership meeting in July but not in August.
- YMCA – is having their new pool grand opening on June 18th & 19th for members and June 20th for the community.
